My work functions as an artistic investigation into the ways in which extractive, technological, and raw material production systems configure our material and symbolic world. I develop an expanded sculptural practice that, through digital media, interrogates the relationships between geological matter, industrial infrastructure, and the cultural narratives underlying resource exploitation.I conceive of sculpture as an expanded and processual field. 
Through actions such as excavating, collecting, classifying, and modeling, I activate material fragments, industrial records, and technical archives. These are translated into objects, installations, moving images, sound, and&#38;nbsp;3D digital models. These procedures generate displacements between the analog and the digital, where physical matter—rock, dust, mineral—coexists with data, simulations, and metadata. 
Following the development of the project Extemporánea, my research has shifted toward accelerated sedimentation: a practice that approaches large-scale additive manufacturing as a process of technological stratigraphy. I seek to explore the machine as an agent capable of simulating geological dynamics within human temporality, creating tension between productive infrastructure and territory. 
Ultimately, I understand sculpture as a process that challenges current notions of production, documentation, and&#38;nbsp;ecological transition.

Mi trabajo se articula como una investigación artística sobre los modos en que los sistemas extractivos, tecnológicos y de producción de materias primas configuran nuestro mundo material y simbólico. Desarrollo una práctica escultórica ampliada que, a través de medios digitales, interroga las relaciones entre materia geológica, infraestructura industrial y narrativas culturales que subyacen a la explotación de recursos.

Concibo la escultura como un campo expandido y procesual. A partir de acciones como excavar, recopilar, clasificar y modelar, activo fragmentos materiales, registros industriales y archivos técnicos que se traducen en objetos, instalaciones, imágenes en movimiento, sonido y modelos digitales 3D. Estos procedimientos generan desplazamientos entre lo analógico y lo digital, donde la materia (roca, polvo, mineral) convive con datos, simulaciones y metadatos.

Tras desarrollar el proyecto Extemporánea, mi investigación se desplaza hacia la sedimentación acelerada: una práctica que entiende la fabricación aditiva a gran escala como un proceso de estratigrafía tecnológica. Busco explorar la máquina como un agente capaz de simular dinámicas geológicas en la temporalidad humana, tensionando la relación entre infraestructura productiva y territorio.

Finalmente, entiendo la escultura como un proceso que tensiona las nociones actuales de producción, registro y transición ecológica.

2025-24. PROXY. 2K full-color video documentation with stereo audio. Screened in the José Miguel Blanco Gallery, National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile.


Artistic intervention in the stone quarries of Guidonia, Lazio (Italy), using a fragment replicated through 3D printing (PLA biopolymer) from the sculpture Galvarino by José Miguel Blanco (1873, Collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile), a work produced by Blanco during his stay in Rome.

This video simulates a monumental stone
sculpture with portrait linkage to Guggenheim Family, who through their
multinational companies were the promoters of the large-scale copper and
nitrates mining in Chile and worldwide. This artwork uses humor and irony to
articulate a critic around the philanthropic figures of the 20th century, who
after exploiting the territories of the third world, turned part of their
resources to patronage activities in the arts.

2018. MELTED TOWNS. Series of four objects made of NB Butyl&#38;nbsp; (Rubber); and polished copper tubular structure. Size 450 x 130x 45 cm.


This work is shown as a series of pieces hanging from a structure of tubular copper profiles, on it a serie of bidimensional works made in black butyl rubber which is used to protect the earth from seepage of chemical waste produced in large-scale mining. The cut-out urban grids shown the density of housing in the company towns of Sewell, Chuquicamata, María Elena and Pedro de Valdivia. The gravity deforms the material and deconfigured the grid establishing an analogy with the loss of memory of these sites.

2017. SPECULAR&#38;nbsp; -Big Mirror-&#38;nbsp; .&#38;nbsp;450 mirror-polished coper plates (2mm), and black rubber support. Dimensions 4,5 x 5,3 mts. 











Floor sculpture thats is builded 450 copper pulished plates with the size of a brick, those are distributed on the floor producing an irregular geometric shape that articulates as a reflective surface. Specular is created from a street register (mapping a ruins), from the artistic intervention on public space Invertir la Pirámide.


This work is a milestone for memory that Raw material project is about it.

	The power of rocks,&#38;nbsp;2021. 
feat Ignacio Helmkeat Palace Cultural Center, Coquimbo district. Chile.

Project that investigates the current influence of the mining industry in the Coquimbo Region. We approached through complaints about the loss&#38;nbsp; of archaeological pieces in the Pupío estuary valley intervened by Minera Los Pelambres, the most biggest copper mine in Chile nowadays. From these observations we generate a series of plastic and audiovisual works that seek to reflect on the transformations, displacements and territorial conflicts that this industry entails at the local level, as well as the interactions between different public and private agents.

	Erosion Mechanics is a project that investigates the relationship between contemporary art and the lithic industry through a series of procedural and visual exercises approached from an interdisciplinary artistic perspective. These exercises will be developed as a fieldwork-based dialogue between the sculptural and documentary heritage of the collection at the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) and the travertine extraction zone of “delle Acque Albule” in Italy. All of this is framed within a theoretical context that brings together media theory, new materialism, and posthumanism.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; We use clocks, agendas, and calendars; we rest on certain days and work on others; we generally value punctuality; we celebrate anniversaries and elect representatives and rulers for specific terms. We understand and plan our lives, on both small and large scales, according to some idea of time. But things become more confusing when we try to describe time, explain what it is, and how we perceive it.


Perhaps geology can offer us some clues to perceive time. Avicenna, a Persian philosopher and scientist who lived a millennium ago, is said to have been the first to formulate what we now call the principle of the superposition of strata. This means that layers of sediment accumulate in the soil over time, with the oldest at the bottom and the newest on top. In this sense, soils and rocks may be the most direct perception of the passage of time, condensed in a matter we can experience with our senses.





&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Lapis tiburtinus or Roman travertine is a sedimentary rock—wrongly referred to in the Americas as “travertine marble,” although it is not exactly marble. It forms through the accumulation of sediments under specific conditions found in the landscape of Guidonia and Tivoli (RM), such as the distinctive features of the Aniene River basin and especially the presence of the Acque Albule. Compaction and high temperatures turned these sediments into rock, but a careful observation reveals that their formation was a process of extremely long duration; chronostratigraphic studies date it to around 100,000 years.


We would know far less about travertine if the ancient inhabitants of this region had not discovered its constructive and ornamental properties. In particular, we might not be discussing it today if the Romans had not begun its industrial extraction around two thousand years ago. Some of their most admired and well-known monuments were built with this stone, so its extraction grew alongside the expansion of the empire and the later hegemony of classical architecture and sculpture. These were closely associated with marble and experienced renewed development during the Renaissance (15th and 16th centuries) and Neoclassicism (18th and 19th centuries), when the aesthetic even crossed the Atlantic to settle in the Americas, further increasing demand for these stones.


Two millennia of industrial extraction have transformed the Guidonia landscape and stand as early evidence of human activity shaping the world as a geological agent—something that may seem obvious today if we look at the landscapes left by extractivism: from open-pit mines and massive tailings fields to forests razed for monoculture plantations, and even climate change driven by greenhouse gases.





Along with the expansion of the classical artistic paradigm, pieces of stone (travertine, Carrara marble) circulated as raw material for sculptors and art academies across the Western world. Sculptures created by Italian artists also adorned buildings and public squares (such as the Plaza de Armas in Santiago, Chile). Simultaneously, sculptors, artisans, and marble merchants traveled from Italy to the Americas, while the journey to Rome became nearly a rite of passage for American artists.


Chilean artist Jose Ulloa Acosta’s proposal at the Palazzo Orsini in Licenza may be seen as a new version of this story that links art, stone, Italy, and the Americas. This time, however, stone is not simply a raw material or a means to another end—it is the central focus of an exploration where art and science engage in dialogue. The visual exercises on display result from his research conducted during a residency at L'Aquila Reale Centro d'Arte e Natura in Civitella di Licenza. Over five months, he carried out fieldwork exploring the travertine industry, emphasizing the stone’s extractive, geological, and heritage dimensions.


The exhibition connects the archaeological vestiges from the Palazzo Orsini Museum’s collection with the landscapes of the lapis tiburtinus quarries in the Acque Albule area. It integrates multiple languages: scientific and bibliographic documentation, material samples, 3D digital prototyping, 3D animation, and video records of territorial interventions. Through this multidisciplinary assemblage, it invites us to reflect on matter as a vibrant agent (Jane Bennett) and proposes art as a critical tool for rethinking the impact of the present and imagining future projections of the relationship between human beings and material and natural resources.

About the artist’s book
Extemporanea is an expanded essay that explores material and symbolic transfers between the territories of Italy and Chile, linking the quarries of Guidonia with the sculptural collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts. Conceived by artist Jose Ulloa Acosta from his situated experience in the stone quarries—through fieldwork, photographic, audiovisual, and graphic documentation, as well as an in-situ artistic intervention—the publication enters into dialogue with texts by curator Claudio Guerrero Urquiza, and is articulated around the figure of Galvarino, a Mapuche warrior who confronted the conquistadors in the sixteenth century and was later represented in marble at the end of the nineteenth century by sculptor José Miguel Blanco.


The book presents multiple modes of writing—historical, curatorial, poetic, fictional, essayistic, and theoretical—organized according to the stratigraphic logic of geology. These writings are accompanied by a hybridization of materials, records, formats, and supports: fragments of real and fictional quotations coexist with geographical coordinates, diagrams, photographs, and historical references, alongside copies produced with contemporary technologies. All these layers operate in superposition, evoking matter in its constant plurality and transformation.

Artistic intervention in the stone quarries of Guidonia, Lazio (Italy), using a fragment replicated through 3D printing (PLA biopolymer) from the sculpture Galvarino by José Miguel Blanco (1873, Collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile), a work produced by Blanco during his stay in Rome.

	
PROXY documents an artistic intervention in two stone quarries in Guidonia, Italy: one active and the other abandoned, undergoing vegetal regeneration within a post-industrial landscape. The work deploys a sculptural fragment replicated through 3D printing (PLA biopolymer) from the sculpture Galvarino by José Miguel Blanco, activating it as a proxy body that articulates a relationship and transfer between sculptural heritage, geological violence, and territory. The mutilation of the Mapuche warrior’s body and the fragmentation of the quarry’s geological body are read as homologous forms of violence, produced through colonial and extractivist logics.


In this gesture, the colonial monument is detached from its representational function and reconfigured as a material trace of territorial mutilation, where extraction and vegetal regeneration coexist as asymmetrical temporalities, without erasing the persistent mark of human intervention.

This artistic research is about the political, social and economical infuences of Guggenheim Brothers Company (most important mining company in 20th century worlwide), on Chilean soil. Who through their multinational companies were the promoters of the copper and nitrates mining industry in Chile and worldwide. 
This artwork makes links with the mith of Guggenheim enterprises in Chile, and de memorial sculpture as an alegoric simbolism of american industrial colonialism in southamerica.
